about

"Each song on postromantic focuses on a different couple of characters," writes Vivienne Wilder. "But they're all one-sided conversations. All six songs are focused on doomed love. 'Jimmy', the opening track, tells a sort of Bonnie & Clyde story where ultimately the lovers must separate or perish."

lyrics

Jimmy I'm sorry you're as good as they come
Me, I'm just a million in one
Remember when I met you the first time
And couldn't look you in the eye
Talking in the hallway, sitting on the floor
Stories 'bout the ones we'd been with before
Out on the street, your shoulder in the rain
You pulled me up as the pavement caved

But when the empire won
And the drip formed a trickle
And the trickle formed a stream
You were the only one who wasn't washed away
Who held onto the cracks in the concrete

Leaning on the guardrail; bedroom eyes
Flirting with the cop as you jack his ride
The deep blue kaleidoscopic drives
Making crop circles you designed
Afternoons hiding in the car park
Living off stolen chocolate bars
The sun set, you took me on the roof
If life's an art, baby, you're the proof

Cause when the empire won…

Watch the sun go down across the lake
I can be strong, just not today
Today I'm feeling old & strange
Please, please, Jimmy don't you ever change

Cause when the empire won…

Jimmy, I'm thinking I should get out of town
I won't be here next time you come around
I'll head back west; get a job
& maybe finally move on
